This area was made a nature reserve at the end of 1999.
It is found on the border between the provinces of Malaga and Granada.
It still maintains the mystery of the unknown and the unexplored. Its peaks and unimaginable steep slopes and its rough, sandy rocks, dotted with pine trees, once were the challenge of the many shepherds, hunters, resin gatherers, haymakers, wood cuters, lumbermen, highwaymen and fugitives...but the last thirty years have brought silence and loneliness to its pathways and ravines. The crystal clear waters of its rivers are musical, together with the wind in the pines and a sense of the infinite overwhelms the climber on his way up the tortuous mountain paths. The fierce wonders of this place captivate the hearts of all those with a passion for untamed nature.
