The Reservoir

The Sierra de Tejeda mountains are dramatically reflected in the waters of this great lake and help to create a paradise of peace and tranquillity, where the light of the sun is reflected in blue, green and ocre colours; the blue of the water, the green of the vegetation to be found on the lakeside banks, and the ocre of the earth around. This area is also known as the Oasis of La Axarquia.

This reservoir has the greatest capacity in the province of Malaga, providing water for the Southern half of the county and sometimes supplying drinking water to the capital city of Malaga. This is a haven for fishing (mullet, carp, black bass, pike and tench) and for other non motorised water sports.

Other information: 170 cubic hectometre capacity, 230 m max. quota, 89m high and 460m long dam. 4.1 million cubic metres of different materials were used in its contruction.
